Taj Mahal, who may be best known as one of the foremost bluesmen of his generation, has in fact pursued and elevated the sounds of the American South, the Caribbean, Africa, the Hawaiian Islands. Rising to international fame in the 1960s, Taj has continually pursued his musical explorations, that have recently included Grammy winning collaborations with Keb’ Mo’ and Ry Cooder and his new chart-topping 2023 jazz album “Savoy.” The “Maestro” brings his world of music to the stage, performing with his quartet.
Sona Jobarteh, one of the fastest rising stars in the world music scene today, is hailed as Africa’s first female griot kora master. With her instrumental virtuosity and ethereal vocals, Sona and her band blend traditional music, blues and Afropop to create an original, hypnotic and spiritual sound that has graced concert stages, recordings and film scores, and viewed by more than 23 million viewers on YouTube.
