The Parking Violations Bureau of the City of Albany is responsible for collecting and resolving any parking tickets and/or violations within the city of Albany NY. The duties, responsibilities, and functions of our Parking Enforcement Officers are:

  • To provide quality, courteous customer service and promote the safety and the proper flow of traffic throughout the streets of the City of Albany.
  • To protect the rights of the pedestrians and parking public who abide by local and state parking ordinances and laws.
  • To assist in providing available parking to residents, visitors and businesses.
  • To enforce the city and state parking ordinances and laws.
  • To assist in any city emergency as needed.

As a representative of the Albany Parking Authority and the City of Albany, officers will perform their duties in a professional manner at all times and to the highest standards.

 

Parking Enforcement FAQ

How Or Where Do I Pay For My Parking Ticket?

Online: Tickets can be paid online at https://albany.rmcpay.com by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and/or AMEX), subject to convenience fee at any time.

By Mail: Checks or money orders should be made payable to: Parking Violations Bureau. Include the ticket number and license plate number of the ticketed vehicle on your check or money order. Checks and money orders can be mailed to:

In person: Payments can be made in person using cash, check or money order at the Treasurer’s Office, City Hall, Room 110, located at 24 Eagle St., 1st Floor, Albany, NY 12207, Monday through Friday, 8:30AM - 5PM. Credit card payments are also accepted at City Hall using a self-service computer portal.  

What Can I Do About A Parking Ticket / How Do I Contest My Ticket?

The Albany Parking Authority does not handle or manage payments, contests, or appeals for parking tickets. For questions or assistance in regards to a parking ticket or violation, please contact the Parking Violations Bureau located at Albany City Hall at (518) 434-5006 or This email address is being protected from spambots. To contest a parking ticket/violation the ticket holder will either need to bring the ticket(s) into Albany City Hall to issue the contest in person or mail their contest to the Parking Violations Bureau with a copy of their ticket and an explanation attached.

Parking ticket/violation contests cannot be made over the phone.

Am I Exempt From Paying A Meter Because I Have A Handicap Parking Hangtag?

An individual is ONLY exempt from paying the meter when BOTH the handicap hangtag and meter parking waiver placard are visibly displayed in the vehicle.

When Is A Vehicle Eligible For Booting / What If My Vehicle Has Been Booted?

When a vehicle has $200 or more in outstanding parking tickets for more than the 20 day limit, they are eligible for booting.

If your vehicle has been booted, you will need to contact the phone number on your booting notice.

Do I Have To Pay the Meter During Snow Emergencies?

No, during snow emergencies all Parking Meter rules and regulations are temporarily suspended until the snow emergency is lifted. Vehicles will still be ticketed during a snow emergency if they are blocking crosswalks, fire hydrants, handicap parking areas and any other obstructions.

Who Do I Contact To Reserve Parking Spaces?

To reserve a parking space for moving, loading and unloading or a special event please call the City of Albany’s Traffic Engineering Division at 518-434-5791.

If you are looking to reserve a metered parking space, additional fee’s may apply based on the meters zone.

Can The Albany Parking Authority or Enforcement Void Parking Tickets?

No, the Albany Parking Authority cannot void/cancel a parking ticket.
