Capital Walls Receives the James M. DiNapoli Award from the Downtown Albany BID
August 23, 2024
Last night at the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District’s (BID) Annual Meeting, the Capital Walls program was presented with the James M. DiNapoli Award for its transformative impact on the economic vitality of Downtown Albany, NY.
The works of art created as part of the Capital Walls program have helped to drive economic development in the City of Albany by transforming often overlooked areas with meaningful, uplifting works of art. These stunning murals have all become Albany landmarks, which attract visitors from all over the country who wish to experience these stunning works firsthand.
“The Albany Parking Authority is proud to be a founding member of the Capital Walls mural initiative. Since its inception in 2016 and creation of the very first mural, “Bluebirds” by Michael Conlin, this transformative program has helped to improve walkability and economic development within the City of Albany by providing artists with unique canvases to showcase their amazing art on. Public art is a key to creating a vibrant city and for the past 8 years, we at the Albany Parking Authority have had the privilege of commissioning 15 Capital Walls murals at our facilities and we look forward to continuing these kinds of investments in the coming years.” – Said Sean Palladino, Executive Director of the Albany Parking Authority
All of us at the Albany Parking Authority are honored to be a part of such an impactful program. We would like to thank Capital Walls curator Tony Iadicicco for accepting this prestigious award on the program’s behalf, along with our friends and partners at the Albany Center Gallery, the Albany Barn, and the Downtown BID. But most importantly, we would like to thank all the artists who have contributed their time and amazing talent to this initiative, because without their unique visions, the Downtown Albany skyline would be a much less vibrant view.
