On-Street Parking Meters
Parking Meters - There are approximately 2,000 metered spaces at curbside on more than 165 block faces between Broadway, Madison Avenue, Central Avenue, Washington Avenue, and Livingston Street. Some meters are located in C-1 neighborhood business districts.
Most are short-term duration, limiting parking to one hour or two hours to encourage turnover of the most convenient downtown parking. There are a few 20-minute meters at high turnover locations. Longer term meters are located on streets fringing the central downtown.
Meters typically operate Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM, with the exception of certain
national holidays.
Meters provide time only for valid United State quarters, gold-colored Sacagawea dollar coins, and with CashKeys. Other coins will not register time on the meter.
Signs are posted on every block, advising of the parking time limit for meters. Instructions are also posted on every meter. Each meter has an identification number under the glass dome on the side facing the street.
Special restrictions such as no parking, loading zone, handicapped parking, fire lane, and so forth are identified via on site signage. Please be careful to read and obey these rules.

Parking Meter Enforcement
Public Safety Officers (PSO) of the Albany Police Department enforce parking regulations daily under ordinances of the City of Albany. Parking violations, including expired time, are ticketed by a PSO, and citation revenue from fines and penalties remains with the City. Instructions printed on the citation explain options for payment and appeal.
