Albany Parking Authority Works to Educate Area Drivers

ALBANY - International Parking Institute, (IPI) the world's largest parking association, has created a partnership to develop educational programs for drivers with the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education.

Albany Parking Authority's Executive Director, and long time active member of the IPI, Michael Klein announces that these educational programs will be brought to the Albany area in an effort to better train and educate drivers.

"Our goal is to provide drivers with information to reduce the likelihood of having an accident, "said Michael Klein.  "This program is important to the safety of all drivers including those in the Capital Region, from teen drivers who are just learning, to the most experienced."

The new program is designed to teach important parking basics as well as encourage respect for parking laws.  It will cover a range of issues from safety and security to parallel parking, parking on hills, how to exit spaces, and more.  The program will provide information specifically for different groups, such as senior citizens and teen drivers.

"Being knowledgeable about parking is an essencial and often undervalued part of being a good driver," explains Shawn Conrad, Executive Director of IPI.  The Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education is dedicated to raising the level of traffic safety awareness, training, and educating drivers.  According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, parking-related crashes account for more than 20 percent of automobile insurance claims.

The new program will be officially launched at the 2012 IPI Conference & Expo in Phoenix, Arizona, in June.
